The chill track MST by Best Mann "(the alter-ego of Massachusetts-based producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and Prince-devotee Nate Mondschein)" at first feels like a homespun organic alt folk track in that Jack Johnson sort of way but then proggy elements of what I would call jazz folk fusion crops in, in rather big way with a super cool and active bass line and big downbeats and bigger crescendos bringing in my mind artists like Dave Matthews, Dr. Dog and Jamiroquai smooshed together (go with me on this). You may think of other artists but in the end there is something unique and multi-faceted here.
THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Best Mann (the alter-ego of Massachusett-based producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and Prince-devotee Nate Mondschein) is an obsessive over small moments. Merging Art-Rock aesthetics, Hip-Hop-adjacent pocket, and Folk-style storytelling, Nate brings his diverse influences to bear in the form of lush, groove-heavy arrangements encircling observational, evocative lyrics. He likes telling stories about family, and anxiety, and love, and ghosts, and things he can’t remember as well as he wishes he could. He does a lot of this on his self-produced debut album under the Best Mann moniker, …And the Sky (out Fall, 2019).
The lead single of ...And The Sky, “MCO” was released on August 30th, and has since been featured on a variety of playlists and publications, including For the Love of Bands, Modern Trax: Indie & Alternative, Pretty in Noise, B-Sides and Badlands, Queen City Sounds and Art, Inside Alt Vibes (Deep In Tune), and Indie Deep Cuts (Drawing on Scars). The follow up single, "MST" dropped on September 27th, and has since appeared on Indie Rock: The Best of Now (Slay Sonics), The Vinyl Chapters Weekly Shuffle, Freshly Squeezed (B-Sides & Badlands), and Caesar Live and Loud, among others.
Beyond Best Mann, Nate’s work as a songwriter, producer, and performer has been featured in a variety of publications, including The New Yorker, Afropunk, NEPR, Okayplayer, The Deli Magazine, and many more. Nate is the owner of Echo Base Production, a full service music production company out of Western Massachusetts.
