Matthew And The Arrogant Sea and the sad, dark garden rock of "The Line"

The latest offering from alt folk / psyche pop Matthew And The Arrogant Sea (based out of Denton, Texas) is the provocatively sad The Line. From the onset, the tactile acoustic guitar feels torn and when Matthew Gray starts singing his story, a story filled with uncertainties and unknown truths (to be discovered) it makes you want to know more about the backstory. His quiet moments and hard wails are held up by big electric guitars and drums with big folk rock gusto that veers into country / garden rock sounds too and the piano downbeats are so lovely. It ends before all the questions are answered but the Official Video heaps more darkness on.

The Line is the firs single from the band's upcoming EP "A series of dreams #2- But... Who are you now?" dropping in May (2020).

Heralded with praise from outlets such as Daytrotter, NME, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Good Morning Texas, and NPR, alongside the exuberant praise from their national debut, "Family, Family, Family, Meets the Magic Christian", in 2008—named one of the best records to be released in North Texas in the last decade. With the band's latest endeavor "The Glooms, Pt. 1", MATAS takes a darker turn into newer and dreamier territories while maintaining (and improving upon) the sounds they had originally sought out with the 2008 release.
