Two Inch Astronaut / Grass is Green- Split Dicks

Sometimes a band name just speaks to you. Two Inch Astronaut does to me. I don't know why. Their latest musical treat is Split Dicks which is a split 7"- you get two of their songs and two by Grass is Green. I have not heard Grass is Green but the two songs (Greatest City in the World and Ain't I Look Pretty to You) by Two Inch Astronaut are pretty sweet. Sam Rosenberg (guitar and vox) knows when to let loose and when to get out of the way and let Matthew Gatwood (drums) and Daniel Pouridas (bass) hold sway. The melodies go from pretty with a bitter twinge, clean breaks and cool tempo changes. Real lovely rock happening here that is a kind of progressive post punk blend. Mars Volta comes to mind with an almost grungy underbelly like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and Frank Zappa were diced up and thrown in the stew. Ain't I Look Pretty to You is especially askew in it's composition and I like that a lot.
