NEWS December 2013: Supreme Court Declares Homosexual Sex Illegal

"Supreme Court declares homosexual sex illegal". This was the headline in publications in India on December 11th when the Indian Supreme Court overturned a 4 year old ruling that decriminalized homosexual relationships. So now, the Indian Supreme court is reverting back to "Section 377" law that has been the norm since India's Colonial times. This law bans people from engaging in "carnal acts against the order of nature."

"Carnal acts against the order of nature" is an interesting phrase. One wonders if the legal minds at the time understood that a whole host of animals in nature have sex with mates of the same sex. Or maybe the "order of nature" has to do with procreation? But if that is the case it would be illegal to have heterosexual anal sex or contraceptive sex. Whatever there thinking is, way to go India for taking a step backward.

This unfortunate turn of legal events and India's horrible history of how they treat women make India just a horrible place in general. TrustLaw, a news service run by Thomson Reuters, has ranked India as the worst G20 country in which to be a woman. There is a abnormally high rate of female fetuses being aborted over male fetuses. Rape is up. In a third of the cases by neighbors. Women are still being burned to death over dowry disputes. Studies even show that women are more likely to receive inadequate health care than men. From birth to death, India is not kind to it's women.

The United States Supreme Court building is pictured above obviously to mislead those who read this post. It is also pictured to suggest a "what if" scenario. The United States is one of the greatest countries in the world and one of the most forward thinking in terms of individual rights but we all must stay vigilant. There are forces in this country who wish we would be just like India in terms of subjugating women and homosexuals. Be strong, be moral and be vigilante.
