MAWD- in her "Dark Room" lays down powerful declarations

In Dark Room, Mawd (the moniker of California songwriter / musician Madeline Matthews) with a shifting stalking vocal performance lays down powerful declarations. The music almost feels like gospel infused rock with heavy piano downbeats, guitar power chords, and bottom heavy drums and bass. Within the sounds and especially her vocals there are post punk tones too filtered through blues rock nuances.

Of Dark Room (a song about how we can all feel isolation at times in our lives) Matthews says: "I felt like I was going crazy, sitting in my dark dingy dorm room struggling with the longing for a comforting feeling, trying to fit in, feeling like a stranger in my skin and discovering a new dark part of my mind".
