The track The Paper Sky by Heele (the recording project of songwriter multi-instrumentalist Michael Henss hubbed out of New Haven, Connecticut) has a big rock sound with heavy drums and walls of guitar sounds but the tones have a kind of dark elegance. It feels part industrial rock but then shifts into melancholy slightly twisted piano heavy piano chords on the edge of dissonance that reminded me a bit of Ramin Djawadi's work on Westworld that is if his composing partner was Trent Reznor.
Henss has been steeped in the Heele compositions since 2015. Prior to Heele he played guitar in the band Ungifted and drums in the band Dead Wives. By day he works as a music educator, composes for television and is a freelance audio engineer.
