Kermit Obert's EP "Summer Sun" feels like inspired tears

AP Track Review

Kermit Obert's follow up to his full length 2018 debut solo album "K.O" is the single / 3 song EP Summer Sun. The track starts off with cascading acoustic notes that serve as both the intro and a prescient look at the chorus melody. Obert style is sadcore-esque to be sure but not dour and while you do in some sweet way feel the ghost of Elliot Smith hovering, Obert's defiant melancholia feels like inspired tears not a copy catted homage. His youthful sadness does not feel infinite and between the melody lines there is hope and the fondness of love touched and even lost just listen to the lovely quietly stirring When You Were Mine.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Kermit Obert is a 23 year old singer-songwriter from Lawndale, CA. After the breakup of his punk band "NOYES" he set out to record the songs he'd been writing in his room over the past year. The resulting collection became "K.O" his debut solo album, which was released with KILLPOP records in August of 2018, both digitally and on 12" Vinyl. He followed up the release of the album with a 31 date U.S Tour playing guitar for, and supporting Los Angeles punk band "The Cigarette Bums" and is currently working on his second release.
