The Eyyes beautiful mind bending "Sunshiny Day" feels like a sci-fi futuristic movie with dinosaurs

Sunshiny Day by L.A.psyche rock duo the Eyyes aka Magdalene Herring and David Tourtellote whose recent past lives were that of the psyche / R&B L.A. lovelies: The Fuzzy Crystals is a dark and dreamy tapestry of psychedelia. The pair clean things up from past work, I mean, despite the foreboding droning tone, the overall sound is less harsh than their past release making for a more nuanced work. Tourtellote's and Herring's vocal performance here is intimate and beautifully poised free of a lot of effects. After the wide stare, burn eyed apocalyptic beginning, which almost feels like a Casiofied opera, the drum work and synth lines feel dreamy for sure but also kind of mystical and wonderfully odd, like a sci-fi futuristic movie with dinosaurs. I love the diversion (at one point) to a predominantly strumming guitar sound. It is a nice anchor against all the sonic illusions. After the very cool prescient kick drum, the combination of synth, distorted guitar and drink the kool aid vox universe they create is pretty, pretty mind bending. In the end, the Eyyes' Sunshiny Day is a lush, elegant work and beside being a stand out piece on it's own can, could be, is an inspiration, a jumping off point for other artistic avant garde (or not) works by many.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Like a slow barbiturate drip, L.A. psyche rock duo The Eyyes blend bottom heavy synth drones with haunting vocals into a web of chaotic beauty. Capturing an air of ritualism and mystery, members Magdalene Herring and David Tourtellotte, formerly of L.A. psyche/R&B darlings The Fuzzy Crystals, walk the line of moody psychedelia and shoegazy soundtracks. While often artistically askew, a cinematic feel and ambient maze will have you melting heavily into the smog that surrounds Los Angeles.
The second single from their collection, “Sunshiny Day,” is the first release with eclectic L.A. label Poor Man Records. Released October 23, 2019.
