"Dead Leaves" by The Color Study feels more like a sonic experience than a song
AP Track Review
Dead Leaves by The Color Study starts off with pretty patterned acoustic guitar. Just moments in, bass, free form drums, and stacks of vox flood in eventually giving way to orchestrated sounds of strings or synths like a large musical facade being rolled in. That wall of cello like drones rolls off the stage to reveal more busy (yet sort of sparse) sounds but rolls back in, this time with waves of ambiance and percussion that made me think of dead leaves skating across the ground with cicadas in the distance. Dead Leaves, in the end, feels more like a sonic experience than a song and that is alright with me.
The Color Study started out as a studio project by Scott Oliphant but has slowly metamorphosed into a sort of collective of creatives. The self titled album is set to release on Feb 20th with a band of 6 (and growing) to support the release with live shows. Sweet.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
The Color Study started as the studio project of Scott Oliphant and has since evolved into a 6 (and growing) piece band that is bringing the debut, self-titled album from the studio to the stage. With a Feb 2020 release date, the band has begun playing shows supporting a series of singles from the album which are being released through the end of the year.
Live and in the studio, the band veers from quieter moments of melancholic introspection to giant wall of sound sonic productions.
The debut record (The Color Study) was recorded, performed and mixed by Scott at his Oregon based recording studio (Parkway Sounds) and mastered at Sterling Sound for digital and vinyl by Greg Calbi.
