The infectious indie rocker "Changes" by High Tropics might have you seeing things

AP Track Review

Changes by High Tropics, the moniker of Queensland based songwriter Josh Stewart and his band is an indie rocker with a driving beat riding on lush synth keys and Stewart's passionate vocal wail. Guitars swell in experimental ways and the bass and drums wrap around each other and the song itself. It is a song that moves so well that it may cast images in your mind of movement. I thought of surfing at San Onofre and kicking up rooster tails.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Dubbed as “infectious garage pop” by Rolling Stone magazine, High Tropics is the moniker of Queensland based songwriter Josh Stewart and his band. Formed as an outlet to house songs outside of the now defunct garage rock outfit The Ninjas, Stewart’s DIY home recordings quickly caught the attention of esteemed US label Roll Call records, who put out the project’s first two singles in 2017.
Coming off a busy year that saw the band break out internationally with singles “You Never Made it Easy” and “Wait for You” – which amassed over half a million combined streams online – in September 2018, Stewart and gang were selected to represent Australia in the Project Aloft Star Asia competition, held in conjunction with Universal Music Group and Aloft Star hotels in Seoul, South Korea. The performance marked the band’s first international show and onscreen appearance.
New single ‘Feel the Same’ follows on a huge 2018 and is the perfect song to soundtrack the summer. Produced by Elliot Heinrich and mastered by Brian Lucey (Cage the Elephant, Liam Gallagher), Stewart notes the song is about “finally reaching that goal or milestone you’ve been chasing only to find that nothing has changed at all”.
