Allentown's (PA) Catatonic Suns churn together psyche rock, grunge, post punk and romance on "Acid Wash" from the "Aphelion" album

AP Track Review

Acid Wash from the Catatonic Suns (from Allentown, PA) is the dreamy psychedelic frayed single from the bands first studio album "Aphelion". AW has a chill floating sound with shoe gaze elements and post punk crescendos. As I listened to the psyche post punk of "Aphelion", in some ways, I thought of the dreamy post punk /dream punk sound of Yuck (the Daniel Blumberg years) and I really love that sound. Blumberg's Yuck had a fine sense of romance deep in the heaviness of the post punk and I hear that within Catatonic Suns' aesthetic as well. Within that romance wave there are elements of grunge / heavy post rock too- blended inside the post punk motif. In fact, listen to other songs (Electric Plain and Spina Bifida) on Aphelion and you think of Nirvana, Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Acid Wash was first featured on the Catatonic Suns lo-fi self titled demo. This version is off of their proper debut studio album Aphelion. The song flows in and out of a sort of dream state until the listener is "awoken" by the buildup towards the end. The song then climaxes with a wash of guitar and ambiance. Acid Wash was released on November 1st, serving as the first single for the album.
