The dark romance of Jack River's dreamy Dionysian piano ballad "Closer"

AP Track Review

Closer by Australia's Jack River is a dreamy Dionysian piano ballad floating on heavy downbeats ethereal synths and River's piercing eyed vox. Her words have an art rockish surreal tone but that artifice doesn't negate the emotional gravitas. It just makes the dark romance feel cool. The vocal patter, at one key point has an almost torture 60 pop thing happening and the ever heavier synth bass lines ramp up the whimsical edges. In the end, Closer feels like 60's chamber pop pushed through sock hop punk filters with fairy dust sprinkled on it. The Official video as directed by Tatjana Hamilton shot in a 16mm style feels nostalgic and melodramatic in the best way.

Closer is taken from Jack River’s forthcoming EP ‘Stranger Heart’ due for release on Friday 14 February 2020 Available to Pre Order now here - http://smarturl.it/strangerheart
