Leeds (UK) based Joe by the Book stir up Chicano Soul and psyche blues rock on "A Little For My Sake"
AP Track Review
Leeds (UK) based Joe by the Book gleefully pull influence from Chicano Soul within their Indie Rock and on the track A Little For My Sake (to me) also swims below the surface of Beatles' psyche blues rock circa 1969. I, in fact, flashed on (with my idled mind) Mister John Lennon while listening to the bridge and that made my idled mind very happy. Love the psychedelia and the funk and while the lineage of Chicano Soul dates back to the 40's, the 60's is regarded by many musicologists as it's heyday so the Brit psyche CS mix (if it is indeed put there by JBTB) makes sense to me.
Notes:
Ed Allen, the brains behind Joe by the Book explains that 'A Little For My Sake' is about a mother, pleading with her son to change his destructive ways and leave town, in order to protect the home that they love.
On Headcount Records.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
Joe by the Book are a Leeds (UK) based outfit pulling influences from Indie Rock and Chicano Soul, creating a uniquely blended sound within the UK indie scene. With their debut release ‘100 Years’ they explore ego, family relationships, trauma and solitude all with a level of fictional detachment that pulls you into their world that's as much Lima as it is Leeds, and as much Mexico as Manchester.
