"Far Away" by NRVS LVRS feels hyper realistic shiny but with dark edges

"their music flirts with caustic electro-pop"

NRVS LVRS (Nervous Lovers) is the electro pop project of wife and husband duo Bevin Fernandez and Andrew Gomez and the shiny and dark Far Away feels like the kind of song that would be in a hyper realistic film whose story only exists at night. The characters would all be too pretty (girls and boys) but emotionally bruised and battered. At least, in my mind... well maybe in NRVS LVRS' mind too, judging by the bridge,

"I used to feel bad that I don't feel bad but now I just feel nothing. Three tablets a day to keep the demons away so now I just feel nothing."

The shiny dark sound of Far Away is pushed over edges by lush / dirty layered sounds of engaging synths and drum loops (courtesy of Gomez) and Fernandez' dreamy vocal aesthetic that is at once, sultry (and just so damn pretty) and artfully self aware. Such a cool groove with punk pop edges.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

San Francisco based duo NRVS LVRS shift genre norms and establish their own rules within the electro-pop scene. The duo's newest venture has received praise from notable tastemakers and fans with the release of their single "Only Human." Now, they return with new single "Far Away," off their forthcoming CULT LITE EP!

Dark synths set the tone for this moody piece. "Far Away" challenges the status quo - a dichotomy exists between the hazy, cloudy production elements and the seemingly light, echoey vocals. However, NRVS LVRS paint a story of a girl who's struggling with her inner demons. The bridge breaks down a heartbreaking narrative that rings true for so many, "I used to feel bad that I don't feel bad but now I just feel nothing. Three tablets a day to keep the demons away so now I just feel nothing."

NRVS LVRS shed light on hard, but very real human experiences and do it so eloquently. As the saying goes, music is medicine for the soul - NRVS LVRS have found a way to share and grieve in this new project. On their last single, the duo explained "Only Human" was "inspired by an account of a Honduran mother who fled her home country to protect her son from the violence there, only to be cruelly separated from him after a dangerous trek to the U.S."

"All the best moments of your life in three minutes" - Noisey

"An aptly contemporary twist on indie pop. " - PopMatters

"Electro-indie sprawler with massive '80s-pop sparkles sprinkled over the top." - The Line of Best Fit

"Blissfully frothy offering" - Variance Magazine

NRVS LVRS (pronounced "Nervous Lovers") is the dreamy electro-pop project of husband & wife duo Andrew Gomez and Bevin Fernandez. Taking influence from acts like Massive Attack, Can, and Kate Bush, their music flirts with caustic electro-pop elements similar to that of The Knife, Bat for Lashes, or Crystal Castles. The dulcet tones of Fernandez' soaring vocals complimented by Gomez' low crooning glide over layers of swirling synths & layered drum loops to create compelling electronic soundscapes.

NRVS LVRS saw acclaimed praise for their 2015 debut LP, The Golden West. SF Weekly called it as "crepuscular and opaque, with a grimy layer to it that thinly disguises the vein of pop running through the song[s]." NRVS LVRS has spent the past few years creating and maintaining their name in the indie-pop-darkwave scene. They've opened for acts like Jagwar Ma and Telekinesis and received glowing reviews from PopMatters and Noisey.

They followed the release of The Golden West with their sophomore album Electric Dread in 2017, and released their most recent single "Whatever & Ever" in early 2019. Now the duo are kicking off 2020 with a string of releases from their upcoming EP, recorded in Los Angeles with producer Eric Palmquist (WAVVES, FMLYBND).
