Katie Toupin's 60's toned sparkling ode to sobriety "Don't Wanna Die"

"it's a fact check"

Katie Toupin's 60's vibed Don't Wanna Die sports Toupin's sparkly vox and has a sock hop punk energy. The happy, though maybe darkly happy aesthetic belies a serious subject. At two and a half years sober, Toupin says it is about her last night out. She also admits that with the recent events that this song has taken on a new relevant meaning with some of her fans. While sometimes I think life is one dark comedy, there are dark and sad touchstones that make us take stock of our lives and life in general. It might be a near death experience, it might be the death of a parent and it might be a so called viral pandemic. These moments solidly cement in our hearts and minds what is important not only personally but globally and that can be the shining light here.

Toupin (Houndmouth) also offers: "This song was written by myself, Scott Davis, and Joshua Blue. Produced by myself and engineered by recent Grammy Winner, (for Cage the Elephant) Jeremy Ferguson."

It is a follow up to Toupin's debut album (as a solo artist) called "Magnetic Moves".

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Katie Toupin has spent the last three years undergoing a virtual metamorphosis, emerging from the relative security of, “safety in numbers,” as co-founder and one-of-four members of the popular indie folk band, Houndmouth and co-writer on the Triple A #1, “Sedona,”, to spread her own wings as a solo writer/artist known simply as, Katie Toupin. Her solo debut album release, “Magnetic Moves,” on June 14th will reveal a more personal and undeniably vulnerable side.. Written, produced and arranged by Toupin, the album unfolds in a dreamy pastiche of soul and pop and brightly jangly ’70s rock, a sound that’s lavishly detailed but fantastically fluid. And in her unfussy yet radiant vocal performance, Toupin channels both self-possession and raw vulnerability, fully inhabiting each state of being. “This album is about being bold and being brave and using your magnetism to create the world you want to live in,” says the L.A.-based singer/songwriter.
