Chicago's Elementaj and the raw post punk of "Drunken City" from "EP1"

"best friend, where did you go today?"

Drunken City from Elementaj's recently released debut ep, EP 1, is sparse post punk which makes sense as the band is of the two piece variety which is fine with me. I love two piece bands. There is less to get in the way of the raw attack here and the guitar lines, whether heavy sustained power chords or bending leads, feel so potent wrapped around the heaviness of the unkempt drum bed. The vocal aesthetic feels proto punk, maybe emotionally distant but commandingly strident. Elementaj is such a great antidote for heavily produced, indie trope filled indie rock.
