Luke Ellingson pushing indie folk, pop, post rock buttons on "Hospital Bed" from the debut album "Like Wires Humming"

"I'd sell my skin for a kiss"

Luke Ellingson is the musical project of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Noah Silvestry and besides wondering why he chose what sounds like a person's namesake while having such a cool sounding name, I am entranced with his latest offering called Hospital Bed. It is a very evocative piece of alt pop that tells it's stories in such an emotional way. The narrative here rides on sort of lates 70's pop motifs on one hand but on incredibly slow burn crescnedos that feel cinematically dramatic. Maybe this sense of building such interesting sonic dioramas  has to do with the fact that Silvestry is an architectural designer by day and the fact that he was part of the alt / indie outfit Vern Matz (as a drummer for two years) who I have covered on more than one occasion here at AP.

Hospital Bed is the first single from Luke Ellingson's debut album "Like Wires Humming" scheduled to drop on June 26th (2020).

"Joined by Max Kulicke (Carroll, American Trappist) on lead guitar, and his cousin, Max Mines (Language Please, Megafauna) on bass, Silvestry and company present a confident musical vision wrought with emotion."

Luke Ellingson is the alias of 23-year-old songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Noah Silvestry. Following his departure from Vern Matz, with whom he cut his teeth playing drums on two EPs, the Philadelphia-born New Haven resident finds his voice on his 2020 debut LP, Like Wires Humming. Drawing on a lifetime of musical fandom and experience, Silvestry, an architectural designer by day, sings about the challenges of reorienting towards oneself amid relationships gone awry, his visceral, heartfelt voice set against an expansive and diverse array of musical backdrops, from snarling guitars reminiscent of the late ‘90s alt-country scene to the placid catharsis of post-rock anthems. Joined by Max Kulicke (Carroll, American Trappist) on lead guitar, and his cousin, Max Mines (Language Please, Megafauna) on bass, Silvestry and company present a confident musical vision wrought with emotion. Like Wires Humming also sees Silvestry find an identity as a producer, in which role he has cultivated a growing body of work, breathing life into records for bands such as Sargasso, Sofra, Lanuage Please, and Window Seat. Like Wires Humming was mastered by Ryan Schwabe, and will be released on June 26, 2020 via Funnybone Records.
