The Brush's obsidian art rock allure of "Squeeze & Turn" gleams dark and shiny.
"I will stand afar"
Squeeze &Turn by The Brush, the musical project of Aaron Alan Mitchell on keys, vox, guitar, Eli Thompson on bass (Father John Misty), Joey McClellan on guitar (Midlake, Elle King) and McKenzie Smith on drums (Midlake, St. Vincent) feels cemented in a classic rock sense of theater, the kind with lush red velvet curtains that open to reveal something artful and possibly surreal. There is a curious avant garde tone and vagueness, "Squeeze and turn... freeze and burn" amid languid pretty lead guitar flourishes. Oddly, I flashed on such diverse iconic artists as Pink Floyd, Harry Nilsson, The Flaming Lips, Badfinger and Radiohead as I got lost in this track. Love the beauty, the askew sense of words and melody and the subtle elegant musical touches. The Brush's obsidian art rock of Squeeze & Turn gleams dark and shiny.
