Duff Thompson's vintage noir "Someday Lovers" sounds like a murder ballad even if it isn't about murder.

"let's press against the glass"

Duff Thompson's vintage noir Someday Lovers sounds like a murder ballad even if it isn't about murder. Thompson describes the track as:

"60's spooky country vibe that's contrasted by a somewhat punk rock edge, reminiscent of Iggy Pop, which is all tied together with a string section"

and I cannot exactly disagree. It does have that spooky country feel which for me is steeped in a little bit of that good ole boy persona, in that when you see old vintage footage of roots, country, bluegrass music it primarily took place at that time when some of those regions of the world were not kind to minorities (at all) but in my heart and soul I figure that musicians of all sorts wildly admired each other and I want to believe that music of all types (throughout history) broke down more barriers than it constructed. But yeah, spooky in a way and Thompson imbues the sound with such a stellar tactile sort of phonograph quality that is so evocative of dreams and nightmares. There is something almost David Lynch like in the sideways sound of the strings as well. Not lest I forget to mention the appeal besides the darker aspects, there is also a true charm to Thompson's vocal aesthetic, a worn sound of wanderlust, of riding rails, of hard times and getting roughed up more than once.

Uniquely, oddly beautiful.
