Ace of Wands' alt rock jammer "Feminine Values" burns (Official Video)
"turns the body into shadow"
Listen to Ace of Wands' indie alt rock jammer Feminine Values and Lee Rose sounds pissed off and I get it. I have two daughters and know from them and from life that the cast off misogyny that pours out of the many unenlightened boys as easily as sweat on a hot summer day could fill many swimming pools many times over. Not to mention the violence that females endure as a direct cause of that simmer of stupidity that is allowed to cook. Rose, along with Anna Mernieks (Beams) and Jody Brumell (Shanks), as Ace of Wands puts that anger to good use on this track. You can feel the clenched teeth and fists in her vocal performance even though the rage is floating through in a beautiful way too. Her ability to emote from the soles of her feet up is apparent but done artfully, at times pulling in tones of brash baroque pop within the alt rock ooomph. And ooomph, there is plenty of it. Even though the basic prog is built around a sort of 90's indie rock pattern, the band churns on this one with potent bottom heavy drumming and strident attack on the guitars. Beautiful and powerful like a fire.
Of Feminine Values Rose shares:
"Is it easier for me to endure the pain of female repression and remain quiet, or challenge the status quo? Is it easier to acquiesce to a phallocentric definition of womanhood, or face the pain of discovering my own?
I resist. I resist the constraints of the male gaze. I resist the objectification of female bodies. I celebrate and honour what is true for me in each and every way those truths appear - in rage, in grief, in sadness, in joy."
Burn bright and burn it down.

Ace of Wands is the music and songwriting of Lee Rose. Joined by Anna Mernieks (Beams) and Jody Brumell (SHANKS), the band creates mixture of tones and emotions, blending soaring vocals, violin, synth-bass and guitar into songs inspired by the supernatural, elemental forces and physical sensation. Drawing on a background of rock and roll, classical violin training and folk music, Ace of Wands expands their songwriting to incorporate facets of cinematic soundscapes, pop melodies and interlocking guitars and vocals. Motivated by the tarot card of the same name, the music is about will and determination; to create and destroy, and to bring about physical, mental and spiritual transformation.
