M.A.G.S. garage rock / indie pop hybrid "Gaslighter" from his EP "Lost Tapes"

"The gaslights broken and you’re pushing me away"

M.A.G.S., the musical project / musical moniker for singer-songwriter, indie rock multi-instrumentalist Elliot Douglas, just released the EP "Lost Tapes"and the absolutely only thing wrong with it, is that it is only 4 songs long but then Douglas is undoubtedly saving his other songs for his sophomore album that is due to drop in the fall (2020).

From the sort of sock hop punk meets garage rock of Try to the sway of Berlin (that feels like a distillation of 60's Brit Pop and L.A. Punk) to the pop ballad-esque Couldn't Care that has veiled emo affections while not feeling emo at all to the the celebration garage rock meets indie pop forward feel of Gaslighter, Douglas has an exquisite and balanced sense of blending a multitude of genres into each song (for example: how does one write a song that has me thinking of Japandroids and Childish Gambino at the same time?). He does it so well that his songs are very much indie pop accessible to everyone without sounding like he is selling out. His inescapable talent of merging smart lyrics (intertwined with really tender moments and acerbic jagged biting lines) with catchy melodies is super engaging. This guy is going places.

Looking so forward to his 2nd album.

M.A.G.S. is the solo moniker for multi instrumentalist Elliott Douglas, an indie rock artist known for his punchy, garage rock style and dreamy shoegaze vocals. Originally from Buffalo, NY where he became a staple on the East Coast indie scene, M.A.G.S. turned Los Angeles native in 2018 and signature sound continues to make waves on the West Coast indie circuit.

His latest EP Lost Tapes was released worldwide on May 8, 2020 with the bonus track Gaslighter. Lost Tapes is a cathartic journey, reflecting on the last few years of his life and while it's personal it's also surprisingly relatable. "We all have experiences and sometimes the truth is kind of brutal. It's also just a part of the human process. Sometimes you need to get those things out in order to move on with your life." Gaslighter straddles an alt-rock line perfectly balancing elements of shoegaze and indie rock with punchy guitars, fast hard-hitting drums and dreamy vocals. It's message is a reminder that sometimes you need to get out of our own way and stand up for yourself.

The anticipated sophomore album is dropping in the fall of 2020.
