Repairs' disruptive barrage of heaviness on "Cut To The Chase"

"ask the question"

Cut To The Chase by New Zealand based post punk / alt rock band Repairs is a wonderfully disruptive and eruptive barrage of sounds. After electronic fuzz and blips like ratcheting up on a roller coaster, you fall right into heavy feral downbeats in a 1 / 2 / 3 - 123 pattern that feels so dramatic as voices wail. When the urgent pattern gives way to a slower plodding dirge of sounds and voices sort of facing off, "Cut to the Chase!" - "Cut to the Chase" the sound is somehow even heavier. Divergent alt rock mantra. Bravo.

Originally written as a set closer, “Cut to the Chase” is an unleashing of pent up frustrations with a wall of noise. Bursting out of the gates with angular stabs, bruising drums and call and response shouts, it eventually collapses in on itself for an extended noisy finale.
