Sweet Low Afterglow by L.A. based Sneaky Little Devil and from their upcoming album "Wicked Lullaby" continues their other worldly sound that seems to inform this album. Lush, hushed vox and melodies riding on soul pop keys simmers into a seductive lullaby. This track after many listens made me think of late 70's: The Alan Parsons' Project (noted Beatles, Pink Floyd audio engineer, songwriter, musician Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson, songwriter, musician). Maybe because The Alan Parsons Project also made hybrid music blending in soul with proggy affections of rock and psychedelia all at once.
Sneaky Little Devil are singers and songwriters Gregory and Sarah Scott with other killer musicians with killer instruments at their disposal. Gregory laying down keys/ synths and fat drums courtesy of his skills and his 1966 (Pre-Tama) MIJ Trap Kit, Chris Buzea laying guitar down on his Gretsch G5420T Electromatic holly body, Maxwell Pierce, bass on his Nash PB-63 and Sarah crooning into the Cloud JRS-34. Sneaky Little Devil is obsessed with analog affectations and recording to vinyl.
Sneaky Little Devil's sonic milieu, their sound and songs besides feeling all embracing of musical cultures, also feels a bit sci-fi and futuristic, sometimes the narratives feel dark, sometimes light. The vague poetry can be vexing at times but there (to me) is always a cosmic sense about their sound. Like it is, us as a world, against them or us, as a world, in this thing all together. It is a nice thing to think about, to dream about, a future when we all do come together as earthlings first, a whole world humanity. Power and greed aren't the only things that have to be seductive, how about love and understanding.
