Iska Dhaaf marry pain and purpose on the dream folk of "Frida Kahlo"
"oh my love, I am not who I thought I've become"
During tough times I urge you to take time to look for unadulterated pure beauty. Brooklyn based Iska Dhaaf are a producer/songwriter duo who weave their poetry with organic and synthetic sounds creating deeply moving songs. On their latest work, Frida Kahlo (that feels all the more precious as they have not released anything in four years) harmonies ascend and fall on beautifully painful melodies. The narrative, Nathan Quiroga's own disappointments and feelings of isolation blended with the documented struggles of iconic painters Kahlo and Van Gogh, at times, feels like a surreal marriage of ideals and losses. The rich acoustic flow, picked bass and melody lines as Benjamin Verdoes' tender vox (with supported harmonies) paint tactile imagery amid sparse piano embraces. Beautiful reflections that feel like hugs and mild punches in the gut until guitar and piano soar together in wonderful ways.
