SUSU and the pure rock n roll drenched soul of "It Can't Be Over" (Official Video)
"I begged you to stay a million times"
It Can't Be Over is a pure rock and roll song by NYC's SUSU featuring singer songwriters Liza Colby (The Liza Colby Sound) and Kia Warren (Revel In Dimes). Soulful within a blues / garden rock framework it is a song that could of just been as easily graced by Janis Joplin in the 70's or Guns and Roses in the 80's or Alabama Shakes now. Colby and Warren have the pipes and vocal aesthetic to lace the dirty rock guitars with a patina of gospel and soul.
SUSU features Joey Wunsch (guitar), Ronnie Bruno (drums), and Connor McClelland (bass), of the raucous and energetic NYC trio Dry Clean Only. Amen.
From their debut EP, Panther City.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:
SUSU is a “one and only” type band. The smoldering New York City duo features firebrand female lead vocalists and songwriters Liza Colby of The Liza Colby Sound and Kia Warren of Revel In Dimes. Both are Rock and Roll provocateurs of the highest order. Currently they raise vibrations with their debut single - Let’s Get High, an apt 4/20 release, on the heels of their premiere European tour. SUSU features Joey Wunsch (guitar), Ronnie Bruno (drums), and Connor McClelland (bass), of the raucous and energetic NYC trio Dry Clean Only.
The embers of this Rock n’ Roll wildfire were first stoked four years ago when the Liza Colby Sound and Revel In Dimes emerged as Revel Sound for select NYC shows including a coveted residency at legendary haunt The Rose Bar at Gramercy Hotel, a jaw dropping performance at Webster Hall, and an exclusive appearance at sought after artist enclave The Surf Lodge. “So when NYC based Ilegal Mezcal granted us the opportunity to record, it just seemed like the logical next step,” Kia says. Liza chimes in: “You don’t know what you don’t know, and we certainly didn’t realize how much we needed each other.”
“SUSU” is a Patois term loosely meaning to create “a chatter around something” . A tribute to Kia’s Jamaican roots and Liza’s West Indian heritage directly inspiring the movement of SUSU; a tribal sense that SUSU is USUS. The interplay of Kia and Liza as singers, songwriters, performers, and complementary contemporaries has been organic; super natural. “We kept growing as creative partners and continue to discover the duality in our power of working together. It’s intuitive who takes the top and who takes the bottom harmony, so to speak.”
Genre bending, supernatural, and shapeshifting sounds ooze from the grooves of each SUSU song. Ancestry, bold femininity, and explosive sexual energy course through sonic stories that span Nina Simone empowered heartbreak reflecting the times, Peter Tosh lucid freewheeling, and Tina Turner resilient alchemy. Liza’s psychedelic sensibility and Kia’s slow-burn aesthetic explore a variety of political, personal, and emotional arcs. “We aren’t shy about being black women in Rock and Roll. There is an aliveness, an awareness, and a spirituality to these songs that are both timely and timeless.”
SUSU brought New York City to Niles City Sound in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas to record 5-song EP, Panther City (to be released into the wild in 2020). Producer/engineer/drummer Josh Block (Leon Bridges, Nicole Atkins) along with his right hand Joel Raif, and a posse of ace musicians brought SUSU songs to life in the studio.
For Kia and Liza, SUSU is a powerful addition, a mantra for their lives both onstage and off. “We want to spread the SUSU and invite you to as well. Whether you are on the bus or not SUSU will always be USUS.”
