Toledo and the sadly hopeful indie pop of "FOMO"

As TOLEDODaniel Álvarez de Toledo and Jordan Dunn-Pilz craft breezy indie rock, sometimes happy and sometimes sad but always touching. This pair of lifelong friends and writing partners do write absolutely compelling indie pop. Their aesthetic doesn't play around in the shallows, they go deep somehow and their emotions seeps through and out into the ears and hearts of those listening.

Their latest track, FOMO, is no exception. It moves at a nice clip. The vocal soaring on Toledo's and Dunn-Pilz beautifully surprising melodies are so absolutely entrancing because they do not play it safely. The production contains surprises too, like ambient or sampled diversions and amped up lovely downbeats that feel melancholy and hopeful at the same time.

TOLEDO note about writing "FOMO,"

"This is the first song we wrote and recorded while quarantined together in our hometown of Newburyport, MA. Every morning was starting the same: a very brief meditation and a short session of Yoga with Adriene (love you, girl). The resulting mindfulness was usually short-lived and followed by late nights of drinking and Buffy reruns. FOMO pokes fun at this quarantine lifestyle, but at the end of the day gives voice to a genuine desire to be more present."

Brooklyn surf rock duo TOLEDO return today (6/25) with a new single "FOMO," written and recorded entirely in isolation. With a propulsive, time-shifting beat, memorable vocal melodies, and the twosome's signature splash of whimsy, the song explores the mental ups and downs of quarantine.

"FOMO" follows the success of their entirely DIY 2019 debut EP "Hotstuff," which has accumulated 1.8+ million Spotify streams to date. It features the singles "Hot Stuff," an easy-paced, danceable tune ripe with 80's alt-esque synth flourishes and dueling bass lines; "Qué Pasa?", a woozy, acoustic-guitar driven song about the nuances of a son-parent relationship; and "Some Samurai," an earworm with washed out vocal harmonies and reverberant guitar layers. Their dreamy stand-alone single "Lovely" was self-released in March 2020 and has already generated 80k+ Spotify streams.

TOLEDO is the project of lifelong friends and writing partners Daniel Álvarez de Toledo and Jordan Dunn-Pilz. Their personable charisma, beyond-their-years technical abilities, and enduring love for each other are palpable in their songs and dynamic 5-piece live performances.
