Boldwon & the celestial hip hop of "The Magnificent Lie" feels like an affirmation (Official Lyric Video)

"they conspired against my confidence"

The Magnificent Lie by the luminescent underground hip hop artist Boldwon might feel (in some ways) surreal within the musical atmospheres he swims in. Jazz / neo soul-esque twirling affections, spatial angels or aliens reinforcing his declarations along the way but his words like literal translations of his own gospel feel anchored solely and soulfully deep in the earth of his own convictions. While they may feel like they are wrought from celestial places and even to a cynic like myself can feel the powerful affirmation of his rap.

Of the song, Boldwon offers:

"On New Year’s Day of 2015, I sat in my one-bedroom apartment living room and began developing a five-year plan of goals. To date, I have accomplished my goals while being challenged every step of the way personally and professionally. Something in my spirit guided me to reinvent myself so that I could create an even brighter future for the next generation. Being honest with yourself when you look in the mirror and deciding what is most important to you is powerful and life-changing.

Unfortunately, when you become more awakened to who you are, people will try to downplay your ideas, ideals, and dreams. Never give any human being that much power over your life. Each of us has a journey. Love yours entirely and live life to the fullest because you only get one chance to make the most of it. “The Magnificent Lie,” is inspired by the past five years of my journey towards self-actualization."

Times are tough, hard, definitely uncertain but Boldwon's aggressive self love is powerful stuff these days. Maybe "The Magnificent Lie" is an affirmation of strength worthy of listening to every morning while brushing your teeth or every night before lying down to recharge your flesh and blood battery.

Boldwon began writing poetry and songs at age 12, with his most significant influences being the late Langston Hughes and Marvin Gaye as well as the following hip-hop icons/legends: Slick Rick, LL Cool J, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., JAY-Z, Pharrell Williams, and Lupe Fiasco to name a few. Boldwon is a reflection of courage, confidence, victory, and whatever synonym comes to mind when you think about what it takes to win the game of life. His lyrics are stately, inspirational, and motivational over high energy, soulful, and lo-fi instrumentation.
