Boom Vang and the amalgam of post punk / alt heavy rock / grunge of "Out Of The Blue"

"you know my mind just isn't that clear"

Out Of The Blue by New York's indie rock / post punk Boom Vang is a self assured power rocker that is both punchy and pristine in it's attack. The ultra potent rhythm section with bassist Will Metivier and rapid fire drummer Carson Groenewold are exquisite at creating a heavy, heavy snap. Pour on Danny Morrison's equally heavy but interestingly divergent guitar and lead work that runs the gamut between a sort of 90's college rock airiness and explosive alt rock / grunge ferocity and the theatrical art piece is set for Finn Cronin's formidable vocals. I always will gravitate over a singer who has vocal character over chops but Cronin has both and is a commanding lyricist. When she lays in her low registers I thought of Chrissy Hynde a bit but she can wail in a classic alt rock sense too (maybe a car crash of Hynde, Karen O and Ann Wilson). All this and the song kicks ass structurally, melodically. Damn.

New York’s Boom Vang blends artful alternative rock and 90’s gritty guitar riffs into a rousing spectacle fueled by powerhouse vocals from front woman Finn Cronin. Boom Vang supplies hard hitting rock you can move to and a presence that keeps you.

A chance meet up at Chelsea’s SIR Studios led lead guitarist, Danny Morrison and Drummer Carson Groenewold to merge their respective projects into one, bringing on Finn Cronin shortly thereafter as a lyricist and vocalist. Bassist Will Metivier solidified the lineup in 2018. The group released their demo “Four” in 2019.

The band describes their sound as “Upbeat rock with a post-punk drive, dark melodic riffs and in your face energy. There’s a nod to grunge/alternative rock greats like Nirvana, Radiohead and Stone Temple Pilots - but with a new indie rock feel.” Finn Cronin channels raw emotion and power through her vocals nodding to her own female rock influences, Florence Welch, PJ Harvey and Shirley Manson.
