Roquemore's shiny delay drenched, funk coated indie rock of "Back" swims in lush emotions

"it hurt's so bad"

The track Back by Roquemore, a Canadian self described "beat-driven baroque-orchestral rock project" is dancey and dreamy. It sways and turns on a sort of indie rock groove infused with a fair amount of funk sway. I am loving the vocal aesthetic that feel gritty and internally powerful. Roquemore sings like he is feeling the vibe and song narrative intensely making us feel the emotional weight in a potent way. The strikes of shiny delay drenched guitars, orchestrated synth strings and head bobbing bass and beat drives home the indie rock heaviness with strains of experimental pop. I thought of early MGMT, later Arcade Fire and Ratatat. Sweet.

Of the track, Roguemore shares:

"Designed as an indie cinematic power ballad, it’s a song about: hope, desperation and delusion, set to the backdrop of a collapsing social climate - so, its science fiction really"
