The New Restaurants' wonderfully twisted and inviting anti-pop indie "Fuck Dallas BBQ" pushes the right buttons

"Oh, that wasn't what I said at all..."

The New Restaurants' wonderfully curious and divergently anti-pop indie Fuck Dallas BBQ pushed my pleasure buttons almost instantly and yeah, while that sounds kind of gross, know that those buttons are in my brain for Christ's sake. But I digress. "Fuck Dallas BBQ" with the sort of lo-fi proto punk beginning and super cool bass grabbed me from the onset especially when the singing started. I absolutely love the vocal aesthetic here and the bounce, the cadence and surprising directions this song takes. 30 seconds in I flashed on Joe Jackson, for whatever reason, maybe it is Beau's voice that at once, has an artful punk tone but super passionate too, he doesn't play it safe as a singer but let's the pure emotion of the song pull his voice around.

I love the sort of drunken guitar lines and how every time they arise the drums sort of waddles or sways with it before getting back to the ostensibly double time beat. The drums, by the way, are fucking awesome as is the punchy breakdown and, the chorus, kills. I haven't even got to the dicey lyrics but let's just say that when you hear a song and the story conjures up a million questions then that is a great, great thing. Super stoked about finding this band or them finding me.

About the song, the boys Beau (guitar, singing), Doug (synth, singing), Roger (bass) and Rich (drums) shared (on their Instagram) :::::

"It is about a time when there was a big mistake at a restaurant in Chelsea and one guy got his skull cracked and another guy went to jail for 9 years. It is also about "argument from ignorance" fallacies, and it is also about giant novelty tequila drinks."

Fuck Dallas BBQ is from The New Restaurants' forthcoming album, Wrong Place at Wrong Time, due via Totally Real Records on September 4th (2020). The band hails from NYC.
