Kev Sherry's garage rock strains takes on the far right on "Shoes That Make you Taller" (Official Video)

"imagine I'm in love with you"

I might not easily be able to define exactly what constitutes a renaissance man but I am pretty sure that Kev Sherry is one. He is a songwriter, indie musician, journalist, comic writer, novelist, occasional ok surfer, a slow runner and an optimist. His latest single "Shoes That Make you Taller" released via Here be Apples Records / Kartel Music Group is an exuberant folk indie rocker that feels (to me) like the best parts of 90's American College Rock Radio. Those days when bands like R.E.M and Hüsker Dü ruled the day and the hearts and minds of youth, not all youth, but enough that the scene felt important and mattered, had social depth and fought for causes we all cared about. Maybe it was a gentler time, maybe not but that is what flashed in my mind as I totally enjoyed the caustic indie folk, garage rock sway of this song.

[The single was recorded and produced by Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand) and brings together Kev's musical experience as a member of Attic Lights (Island Records/Elefant Records) with his social justice journalism (The Alternative UK/New Statesman).]

[The song and accompanying video are a direct attack on the false logic and manipulative arguments that fuel the rise of far right and fascist ideologies across the modern world.]

[The song is from Kev's debut solo album after ten years performing with Scottish indie pop band Attic Lights. Having just signed his music publishing to Bucks Music Group, Kev's debut solo album "Foxy Orthodoxy" will be released on Sep 18th, 2020. The album is thematically linked to his critically acclaimed digital feminist comic, Warpaint, which has just been signed to a major global graphic novel publisher for release in 2021.]

Kev Sherry is a songwriter, indie musician, journalist, comic writer and novelist. He has performed in the indie guitar band Attic Lights since 2005 and released three critically acclaimed albums – “Friday Night Lights” (Island/Universal Records, 2008), “Super De Luxe” (Elefant Records, 2013) and “Love In The Time of Shark Attacks” (Elefant Records, 2019).

Kev has recently recorded his debut solo album, “Foxy Orthodoxy” which is part of a triptych involving the comic “Warpaint” and his debut novel “Here Be Apples.”

In music he has collaborated with international artist like Bjorn Yttling, Cerys Matthews and La Casa Azul and his songs have been remixed by Mogwai, Camera Obscura, The Fratellis, Jim Noir and The Vaselines. His music with Attic Lights has appeared on HBO’s comedy-drama Divorce, MTV’s Teen Mom, Netflix's Elite BBC’s The Culture Show and many more.

His journalism focuses on themes of social justice, anarchism, feminist theory, cultural relativism and anti-authoritarianism. Yes – he wrote all this about himself.

Very occasionally he tries to surf, thus aiming to satisfy a teenage need to be in the movie Point Break.

He runs too. Very slowly, but quite far. Then he turns back and runs home after that, while listening to music at high volumes. This will probably damage his hearing in the years to come – but he has an absurd faith in the future possibilities of medical science.
