Goodboy// and the psychotropic indie rock electronica of "Something for my Head"

"You fucking hate so much you're too stubborn to see"

Let's get this out of the way. I literally know nothing about Goodboy//, a sort of dark dream indie rock, indietronic outfit based in Dubai and birthed in 2019, but their track "Something for my Head" not only sucked me in quickly, it spun thoughts and imagery in my head. The percussive electronic and vocal aesthetic does beg me to think of Radiohead, like a smattering of tones and melodic affections that make me think of both In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool at the same time. Sometimes this sort of thing can be a distraction but, for whatever reason, it is not here.

Goodboy//'s aesthetic pushes more indie rock buttons in a more synthetic and cinematic way. The drama is thicker, it is like caustic kind of NIN syrup poured into the ayahuasca before you drink the psychedelic elixir. Take that as you want but listen and feel the flood of imagery wash over you.

lyrics:

Gotta get out get out of this place
I feel like something’s coming this way
A terrible thing is coming to play
To take my pride and the best of my days

Gotta get smart gotta get out the way
Its gonna kill me dead the longer i stay
Gonna place my bets for a better tomorrow
Forgive myself for the things that ive done

You fucking hate so much you're too stubborn to see
You're so insecure its feeding on me
I owe it to myself to want to be free
Then forgive yourself for the things that you did

I can't see straight
I can't tell who is who
I can't think clearly
Let go of my hand

I can't see straight
I can't feel safe
In your dark place
The sounds of breaking glasses
