Baby Combat and the post punk grasp of illusionary hope on "Peddling Ghosts"

"all because she hopes..."

While we all know that art is subjective, and the old adage “one man’s trash is another’s treasure,” we can’t deny the beauty of music’s ability to strike a chord in you for whatever reason. Could be the literal chords, the lyrics, one crazy guitar solo, chilling synth, and so on. The latest single from Baby Combat entitled “Peddling Ghosts” struck us in a plethora of ways, speaking to the human experience and love. Baby Combat is Noel Yeo’s project based out of NYC, and he’s been pumping out killer singles over the past few years which comprise an album of twelve songs aptly named “12,” released November 13th. This new single is released today on New Years Eve, with the heartfelt intent of gifting us all with a song about hope. “Peddling Ghosts” is inspired by Yeo’s mother’s battle with cancer, and how she sought out holistic treatments and shamans who summon spirits to release the “evil” from you. As I’ve studied health psychology and sociology I’m always intrigued by these cases, and thankfully Yeo’s mother has been cancer-free for the past 20 years. The lyricism is beautifully structured within this indie rock jam that hones in on the classic stylings of post punk indie pop, all made from scratch by Noel himself. We hope that in 2021 many more listeners are struck by Baby Combat, and that they appreciate his soulful DIY creations as much as we do.
