"funny how we never talked about it"
There is something about capturing the spontaneous sometimes improvisational spirit of music and of songwriting. As someone who dabbles in the singer songwriter / music composer realm, it is those bursts of creativity when the feelings and inspirations are new that seem to be the most exciting and real. Sometimes massaging those embryonic moments ruin them.
Jerky is a self described "collaborative recording project based in London. With two multi-instrumentalist producers at its core, the project is based around an ethos of spontaneity and the craft of recording. The songs are written quickly in the recording environment and captured on the same day."
The Track "Swift" featuring Sam Holmes of the band Night Flight on vox, written and recorded over a number of improvisational studio sessions in 2019 has a lush, beautiful sway that reminds me of some of the 70's soulful introspective pop / chamber pop that glide along like John Lenon and Harry Nilsson. Those kind of mirror pop 70's tones, in many ways, feel (to me) like inspirations for the emo indie and bedroom pop of the last decade. Love the way "Swift" sounds and especially the compressed intimacy of Holmes vocals. Beautiful stuff, truly.

Drawing influence from a varied pool of genres and eras, the sound moves from 70s singer songwriter balladry to warped guitar pop. With friend and collaborator Alex Hannaway’s lyrics and crooning vocal style, the songs conjure memories of childhood, dark autumnal days and scenes of stark reality in the contrasts of a modern life.
