MARTYRIALS' & Erotic Secrets of Pompeii's mellifluent art punk mayhem of "Chaos in the Rigorous Form" (Official Video)

"this is no ordinary hate"

"Chaos in the Rigorous Form" is a brain stomper of a song. A heady collaboration of Martyrials and Erotic Secrets of Pompeii, it feels like a hyper active art punk car crash of Aldous Huxley, Dead Kennedys, William S. Burroughs, Primus, Anton Lavey, Oingo Boingo, Tropical Fuck Storm and Mr. Bungle. I am more familiar with Erotic Secrets of Pompeii, whose artful deconstruction that combines bombastic flailing musical narratives with surprising dashes of elegance throughout (amid the mayhem), than I am with Martyrials but rapid searches with their material reinforce that they are the perfect ying to ESOP's yang or maybe yang to their yang, or maybe even more accurately the dose of mescaline to their absinthe. Maybe ESOP creates a weird place that feels like politico punk told through a Dr. Dolittle looking glass (with all the animals transformed into people) and Martyrials creates a dystopian punk paste, a musical Blade Runner devolution. I am not really sure but the aesthetic is wildly intriguing.

The "Chaos in the Rigorous Form" collab also serves as a point of awareness and fundraiser for ALL BLACK LIVE MATTER (Bristol) see below:

"DEATH THE GREATEST DEMOCRACY, THE GREATEST ATROCITY IS YOU BEING BORN..." Behold the fruits of an unholy alliance. CHAOS IN THE RIGOROUS FORM is the collab from Martyrials and Erotic Secrets of Pompeii. A song about chaos, a song about death, a song about change, hate and anger... Play it loud and let the earth shake. As artists we stand with the Black Lives Matter movement. We wrote the song in the summer of 2020 not long after watching the Edward Colston statue fall during a BLM protest here in Bristol, this was a historic moment but we feel it's just the beginning. If you have enjoyed this video, Instead of asking you to buy the track, we request that you donate to All Black Lives Bristol's GoFundMe page so that they can continue to provide vital services to the protests and movement both on the day and behind the scenes.

MARTYRIALS

* * *

Formed in 2015 in sunny south England and currently based in Bristol, Martyrials have been producing some of the loudest, weirdest Synth-driven Glam-infused Punk Rock the world has known.

Often compared to Cardiacs, MARTYRIALS follow in the vein of keyboard centric Punk and New Wave bands like The Stranglers, The Screamers and DEVO whilst retaining an air of attitudue akin to Ramones and the erratic energy of bands like System Of A Down and Mindless Self Indulgence. MARTYRIALS have established themselves as one of the the most exciting new bands to come out of the English underground in many years.

2016 saw the release of their 2nd EP 'An Influx Of Heritage', following on from their debut ep 'M' and amidst a slew of line up changes (including the loss of their Sax player to the digital void) they presented the world with their 3rd offering 'Electric Delegates' in June 2019.

Erotic Secrets of Pompeii

^ ^ ^

Erotic Secrets of Pompeii are an apocalyptic art-punk band from Bristol, UK, who wind post-punk and experimental rock together like two ends of a fraying rope.

Their transgressive songs ring with disparate elements - from industrial to world music. The vocals descend from baritone drawl to manic yelp as erratically as the music pivots from catchy groove-based euphony to discord and angulation.

"Very few people can pull off IDLES’ signature vitriol, or HMLTD’s glam romp, and combine it with a chaos all their own, but Erotic Secrets… do that very well indeed. Gloriously, in fact." - Soundsphere Magazine

"Erotic Secrets... have managed to create some of the most chaotic, disconcerting, fun and positively danceable music of the year." - Independent Music News

FFO: Talking Heads, Nick Cave, IDLES, Black Midi, Protomartyr, Viagra Boys, Pixies, Captain Beefheart, Tropical Fuck Storm, Daughters, The Fall.
