Balloon Maker and the runaway indie pop questions of "M.Boy"

"fill in the numbers and file it away"

Balloon Maker hail from Gothenburg, Sweden and their latest "M.Boy" starts running right out of the gate fueled by Farfisa-esque drones, strumming guitars on a wanderlust beat and double time bass while the vocal aesthetic, tender and lost in longing pulls you along. There is a certain Death Cab-ish sadness beneath the dynamic narrative for me but that only makes me love it more. The band shares:

The song found its inspiration during contemplations regarding working within the great machinery of the social services and furthermore the outbreak of (and reactions to) corona that came to be the raging pandemic in which we now find ourselves.

At one point, when the song falls away to synth flute sounds you start to hear the questions in the songs declarations.

"read about the way people strive to stay"

"stay inside and wait"
