"I don't want to be the one to have to say no this time"
The first single "This Time" from the British/Canadian fused post punk trio DISHPIT gets right into the fray immediately. The sparse but penetrating sort of grunge guitar and counterpoised bottom bass line while singer / guitarist Nora Kelly with an upfront, in your face, vocal aesthetic, bathed in a lot of emotional stuff is raw and rugged. It is a clenched fist type of vocal performance, scowling, scorned as she sings in a nothing to lose way.
You are easily swept up in the angst and anger as the powerful drums set a deep anchor down and when the track erupts at about 90 seconds in off a super cool, bad ass guitar break (and all the instruments fill in with punches). As Kelly amid wooops and wails and a messy lead break that might be indicative of the relationship she is singing about, it all breaks down further. I really like the understated musicality here. The production is smart. The upfront elements are mostly, Kelly's vox, the story and that cool guitar while the bass and drums are furious but furiously held back in the mix. It makes the whole affair feel more real, raw and ultimately intimate.
"DISHPIT" is angst and anger told with raw and raging guitars and drums with sweat, spit and bloody vox in turmoil but still the emotional tug is the attraction.
