EXROYALE and the emotional electro washed broken majesty of "Forever"

"you let your conscience fall no inhibitions"

The beautiful heaviness of EXROYALE, the solo project of Josh Schroeder on the dreamy squared "Forever" cast images of snow falling on impressionable bruised lovers at least in my mind. In your mind you may see something else altogether, a glitter ball prom night in an 80's John Hughes flick or a majestic, grand mythology of war and the crush of human versus something other than human. The possibilities are endless from surreal to organic but all cinematic. The nature of the synth work, especially the oscillations over the compressed beats does bring to mind iconic indie sounds like Beach House but Schroeder used less of a wash of electronica giving the tones a bit more raw nostalgia. His voice still stirred up in some sort of effect feels very intimate, the result steeps the emotional tug in youthful tears but with clenched fists scuffed up from adulthood.

Of the track Schroeder shares: “When I wrote -Forever- I couldn’t help but feel the weight of the state of things. On many levels the world of late has felt intensely suffocating to me, for obvious reasons. The feeling of being isolated and wanting to break free but not being able to because of circumstances beyond my control... then realizing that I could turn it all off and tap into complete bliss I started to notice this incredible love all around me. Tapping into that has gotten me through the hardships of the last year.”

A glow in the dark game of truth or dare.

EXROYALE’s new single “Forever” comes from a space of nostalgic escapism. It is meant as a reminder to slow down and embrace the feeling of endlessness about yourself, and whoever it is you love. A beautiful, fleeting moment with someone lasts forever. The ghost is in your conscious, and no matter how dark things around you may get, you can always go back there.

This is the first single that he wrote and recorded from his new studio, Thousand Echoes.

EXROYALE, dream pop, indie rock, "Forever", synthetic wash, electro pop, electronic indie, oscillating sounds, hushed vox, intimate
