Matt Monsoor and the metamorphic boiling pot of "The Rower"

"and it's scaring me how I could get so angry"

Matt Monsoor's metamorphic "The Rower" will surprise you. It never stands still, the musical narrative cajoles with a hushed vocal performance with lots of shade and mystery on top of a sort of porch blues busker rock feel. The atmosphere is cagey, instruments seem to rumble, to growl and there is a pervasive feeling of tension slowly ramping up and then it happens. The cadence steps up, the sense of movement pushes out of town and the vocal performance becomes even more gnarly and internal and maybe more possessed. For some reason at this point and moving forward I thought of Fiona Apple. It might be the brooding nature, the pot boiling over.

Cool.
