The Sarandons' moving garden rock ascensions- "Caught In A Dream" (Official Video)

Toronto based The Sarandons know how to completely sweep you up in their "thing". Take, for example, their latest offering "Caught In A Dream". It is, by any definition, and by it's own self descripting title, a place or mental space were you are on hold while the addictive, self affirming aspects of life, lust, longing, redemption are within grasp but momentarily unattainable. The track is so incredibly nuanced, the musicality top shelf and I feel like, not one nanosecond of sound, of atmosphere to be under or over produced. It feels so natural and so fucking moving.

The beginning, pearly and dreamy. like stepping through an unknown door portends something special and when mere moments later the song falls into a sort of psychedelic Church like garden rock affair I am smitten. The vocal aesthetic, super tender and emotional is framed by such beautiful sounds, stair stepping guitar, ascending organs, drums that slap so tightly in the pocket (in concert with the bass) that they carry you in their arms. When the lead guitar break happens, my smile became so large that my face hurt. Amazing.

Dripping guitar tones, billowing keyboard melodies, and defiant bass and drums all contribute to the textured sound of Toronto music stalwarts The Sarandons. While loose and lo-fi, their music is succinct and fastidiously arranged with action packed songs topping out at the three-four minute mark.

This past year has been the ultimate test of whether familiarity breeds contempt. When you’re marooned at sea together, all sorts of things start to creep in. More insidious than contempt, the people we’re locked in with start to become another piece of furniture in our lives. Days are on repeat and it’s the struggle against these enemies that The Sarandons capture in their new single, “Caught In A Dream.”

The Sarandons, Toronto, indie rock, alternative rock, garden rock, folk rock, story telling, vast, beautiful ascensions, "Caught In A Dream"
