[THESSENCE]

"Gutless" is an indie rocker screaming and asking questions. It is easily relatable for any band who have rambled across the country in a van playing venues everywhere, large and small but more so, questioning those relationships. Digging Aaron Mangoff''s vocal aesthetic especially when he self harmonizes and pushes his guts out to the edge of his own dissonance.

[Summer Birds is the music project of Canadian Singer/Songwriter Aaron Mangoff. The 32 year old musician has spent his earlier career playing all around Canada in various music projects (Starved at the Root, Grey Eyes, Esoteric Doctrine and solo acoustic performances as Aaron Mangoff). Some highlights of the musician's career is sharing the stage with names such as Protest the Hero, John K. Samson of the Weakerthans and Hawksley Workman, to name a few Canadian gems.]

[Much like the theme of the album, Gutless is a literal aim at the artist feeling like they haven't achieved anything. Feeling cowardly, in a way. But as the song performs, it becomes more of an anthem for picking yourself up and creating some confidence in your abilities. A reevaluation of one's approach to this whole thing. Were you doing it for others? The other's didn't show? Well if so, this one is for you.]

[After many years of touring around and jumping project to project, Aaron wanted to create something that could be a facet of full expression, with more of a composer's approach than a "how can I play this live?" restriction. His latest effort SUMMER BIRDS is a genre bending Frankenstein solo project. (Think, CLOUDKICKER meets SIGUR ROS.) A mix of music that has been explored through his musical journey with friends alike. A place to leave it all on the table.]
