Unschooling and the sideways post punk carnival ride "Social Chameleon"

"truth, egos like scrambled eggs"

Fall into the spiraling jigsaw puzzle of Unschooling's track "Social Chameleon" from their upcoming EP "Random Acts Of Total Control" dropping April 16th and you might feel either a spark of inspiration or a clamor of confusion or both. Don't worry that is normal. The post punk outfit from Rouen, France embrace a wild abandoned improvisational sense in their sound that, in the end, feels like a precise time piece that tells the incorrect time and I mean that as an utter, absolute compliment. This divergent tone and attitude brings to mind an amalgam of some iconic (and not so iconic) bands like Television, Uzeda, Loose Lips Sink Ships, and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. Yeah, that is an odd list, I know. I love the navigation here from proto punk tones, experimental pop, prog rock, art punk and tropical punk flavors all converging.

Unschooling are comprised of ex-members of MNNQNS and other Rouennaise outfits. I look forward to hearing "Random Acts Of Total Control".

Leaving aside perhaps Crass or The Beach Boys, few bands can claim to sound like their namesakes. Unschooling are a freshly formed four-piece linking Rouen/Montréal/Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon (tick this box with style).

Students of art-rockers Women, these home-schooled egg-heads have thrown out the textbooks and put a deceptively mathematical brand of rock on the curriculum, where complex guitar lines flirt with lo-fi spontaneity.

Made up of ex-members of MNNQNS and other Rouennaise outfits, the four dunces have built their own Open University on the pillars of post-punk. The result is as noisy as it is sensitive. They’d still end up in the Dean's office if it wasn’t for a few shards of Pop propping up their grades from time to time though.

Their new EP, Random Acts Of Total Control, will be released on April 16th 2021 via Howlin' Banana Records on vinyl and digital.
