Forget This and the love, lows and nourishment of "Black Lentil"

"some people have it worse, it doesn't mean we have it good"

"Black Lentil" is a song about soup. Well, not really, but kinda. Love, caring, takes a lot of forms and, at least, in my world nursing someone back to health is an utmost form of both of those things and, yes, soup, as the saying goes is the best medicine. I swear it seems to be magical. Ellie, singer-songwriter from Forget This could not eat solid foods for an entire month following a serious surgery. "Black Lentil" is a testament, "an ode to recovery, helplessness, and being grateful for the people taking care of you."

It has a beautiful, heartfelt sparkling sense of movement of a journey. In some ways, it feels like a piece of Americana rock, simply tailored with chunky, yet mellow guitar, a machine beat, wanderlust oohs and aahs, surprising falling chord progs and a very intimate vocal aesthetic with a crush of tender words: "you nurse me back to health but I can't do nothing for you" and "I wanna win you back but jesus I'm a mess". The words flirt with death too, with being so low and worried that you leave last words, last notes for loved ones.

"Black Lentil" is from a compilation Album put out by Pizza Bagel Records out of West Orange, New Jersey full of artists singing about soup with proceeds going to the community food band of New Jersey. You can read more details here from the good folks over at Grandma Sophia's Cookies.
