Altre di B and the puzzle shifting light and dark of "Mommy"

"Please, if they want let them go, you will not get bored..."

Oh mommy and daddy... the things you told us, but mostly the things you didn't because maybe you didn't know what to say exactly. Italian Altre di B have a way of crafting indie rock post punk songs that move in beautifully intricate ways. Crossword puzzles of sound and "Mommy" is no exception. The track with vast layers of musical narratives is essentially an art pop punk song that feels light but dares to dig deep into heavy territory too.

The boys share:

A mother's anxiety can do more damage than the educational intent she would like to instill. And it may happen that she treats her children like geraniums to be watered on their windowsill, exhibiting their beauty and hindering their vocations, their desires. It is a form of slavery and prohibition, which only feeds the frustration of the children, who see their dreams unfulfilled. "Mommy" talks about ambitions and desires, which must be followed even if they go further on the horizon and are forced to circumnavigate the World. And find yourself with your back to the starting point. "Mommy"'s conception took place following the vision of the video of "Before the water gets too high" by the Parquet Courts played at the Rough Trade in New York City in 2018. "Mommy"'s genesis starts from a rhythmic loop of a Korg Electribe Sampler. The contrast between the dark and booming electronic base and the ethereal and light-hearted tones of the music and lyrics reflects that between the castrating attitude of some parents and the aspirations of their children.

Altre di B are (forever) Giacomo, Andrea, Giovanni and Alberto.

Since its debut in 2011, the indie rock band altre di B - a vintage name that comes from the matches not included in the B leagues’ football betting- has secured a place in the flourishing scene of its hometown Bologna, mixing the inventiveness and the energy of post-punk combined with a strong euphoric dime sion. The result is a nervous, surprising and jubilant rock.

After numerous self-released issues containing the Panini ® stickers of B league teams, the band released its debut album There’s a million better bands and began a long tour between Italy and Europe. Following this release, the band integrated an array of synth keyboards, expanding their sonic horizons which led to the releases of the albums Sport (2014; self) and Miranda! (2017; Black Candy Records). Several tours between North America and Canada followed, as well as attendance at the international festival Primavera Sound, SXSW, Sziget and Europavox, and performing on Quelli che il calcio TV program.

When this chapter concluded, altre di B spent most of their time in a converted barn as a rehearsal room, an environment that revolutionized their approach to songwriting and influenced a new sound course, extracting a mixture of post-punk styles, jangle and twee. This circumstance, along with embellishments by collaboration with Luca Lovisetto (Baseball Gregg) and attitude of producer Bruno Germano, led to the new album, out on Spring 2021 (We Were Never Being Boring, Costello's).

Altre di B were, are and always will be Giacomo, Andrea, Giovanni and Alberto.
