Moontwin and the grand dark electronic storm of "Monster" (Official Video)

 

"girl got lost... been alone..."

Hearing lush layered vocals against textured synths that (to me) resemble mysterious baritone didgeridoos while spy caper guitar lines hang in the air, Moontwin's latest offering "Monster" feels at once otherworldly but also sleekly cosmopolitan. When the drums ramp in and a dense eruption of more synths, bass lines and other walls of ambient post rock, the feeling is broadly beautiful and in many ways brighter and lighter than some of Moontwin's past songs that we have featured on American Pancake. 

Moontwin are singer-songwriter Maple Bee (aka Melanie Garside) and Zac Kuzmanov, founder of alternative radio station XRaydio and the shining edges on this musical storm feel somehow refreshing. It still feels a bit ominous and dark but also airy and jubilant like a hippie dance in the abyss.

Following the release of their debut album ‘Moon TV’ last year, Moontwin continue their prolific form with new single ‘Monster’. Previous singles ‘For Your Happiness’, ‘Waiting For Fall’, ‘Brakes’, ‘Nothing Is Good For Me’, ‘Never In The Same Worlds’, ‘Lose You’, ‘Your Sun’ and ‘Don’t Worry Bout Me’ have picked up a plethora of blog reviews and playlists from around the world.

Distant old friends with a common history, Melanie and Zac reconnected in a virtual space somewhere between Bulgaria and London. The pair soon found themselves spinning threads of musical ideas remotely. They write and record their music and film their videos using videophones as their portal, all while being over 1700 miles apart.
