Cutouts and the underwater Lennon-esque "Two Lines"

"here I am / there are you / two lines between us..."

Cutout's first release since 2019, the mind warping "Two Lines" is realized for a great cause. It is part of the "CUD Compilation" for NYC Mutual Aid which features contributions from 25 different NY artists and bands. All proceeds from streaming and sales of CUD go directly toward 3 collectives doing mutual aid and organizing work in the NYC area––Bed-Stuy Strong, Equality for Flatbush and the Ridgewood Tenants Union.

From the onset, "Two Lines" has a artful distortion, bends, warbles, as if the sonic colors are modulating under water. The fluctuations in sound also give the impression of a watercolor painting with the colors running and it is so divergently artful. I absolutely love the shifting beats, the harmonies pushing a musical narrative that has a Lennon-esque simple beauty. The song kismetically came together in bits and pieces, the first conception created on an IOS app on "a friend's 7 year old IPad" and then fully flushed out a month later in NYC. Absolutely, broken, quietly stunning and ends much too soon.

Two Lines is the first Cutouts release since 2019. It's a pretty mellow song, I wrote it sitting on a bench with an iPad at 6:30 in the morning. It's the first in a sequence of songs that came together while I was away from home. I was jetlagged and I didn’t have an instrument with me, so I wrote the parts on an iOS app on my friend's 7-year-old iPad, then recorded it a month later when I got back to nyc.
