There is something spectacular about Parks N' Rec's raging folk indie rocking storm "Righteous ... Right ?!" and something angry. Behind the administrative project name is Canadian singer-songwriter, music supervisor and producer Marco DiFelice who was the lead singer of the 90's pop punk band Supergarage. Since then he has been running a successful Toronto music studio and been a successful music supervisor for a host of films, adverts and television shows which is interesting to me because "Righteous ... Right ?!" even at only 2 minutes and 38 seconds feels so utterly cinematic. It bristles with a pushed urgency and intensity. Marco pours so much emotional gravitas in his vocal aesthetic that it feels like he is pounding his outstretched accusatory fingers in your chest.
There is a punk intensity throughout the acoustic guitar and swelling orchestration. It is at once, forceful with sinewy melodies but also so fucking beautiful. After the song ends abruptly like it might after being the punctuation to a rushing bit of overlapping wanderlustful images in a kind of Wes Anderson meets Paul Thomas Anderson way I thought of Parks N' Rec's sound here as an amalgam of Paul Simon, The Band, Los Lobos, John Hiatt and Jeff Rosenstock. I know that is a diverse range of artists to blend together artistically but believe me, the longer you think about it, the more sense it makes.

Marco DiFelice is a Canadian singer, songwriter, music supervisor, and producer. In the 90’s, Marco was the lead singer of the pop-punk band, Supergarage. After the band dispersed, Marco found his way into the world of music supervision, where he selected music for films, adverts, and television shows including Orphan Black and Lost Girl. On top of running his own music studio out of Toronto, he released a solo EP titled The Sun that Somewhat Sets under the moniker Marco Solo in 2007. Now, after 13 years, Marco is writing songs against the backdrop of his own life in Parks N’ Rec. This project — a collaboration between Marco and several producers back at Self Titled Studios — deals with lost love, polarizing societies, and self-renewal.
In October of 2020, Marco booked a one-way flight to Central America searching for a place that would help facilitate an understanding and acceptance of a changing world. He spent the first month and a half on a farm reacquainting himself with nature and purpose. Marco did not intend to write an EP when traveling but quickly gravitated to a guitar when arriving in Costa Rica. He began pocketing sounds from his travels; steel drums, a coastal breeze, a xylophone, and infused them into his songwriting. Marco has been recording vocals and instruments on the road and sending his raw tracks to the Parks N’ Rec’s producers. Parks N’ Rec has released “A Little Cruel” from their debut EP, Wish I Was Here. “It’s going to be a personal album, and hopefully I will capture the essence of every song in this process of ‘working backwards.'” As of Spring 2021, Marco is still writing songs while stationed in South America, seeking expressions of truth and beauty to continue connecting with his own.
