Evran and the beauty and pain of "Birds Of Stone"

"Birds of Stone" by Evran, the musical moniker of Norwegian bedroom artist, producer, singer-songwriter Gøran Skage, feels like a warm inviting fire on a desolate frozen lake giving life but tenuous and dangerous. Influenced by the divergently beautiful sound of mid-90's sounds of artists like Bon Iver, Radiohead and Coldplay, Gøran crafts falling, bending guitar lines, sparse piano, droning ambient, post rock indie tones as a somber, wanting framework for his beautiful voice that effortlessly paint in mid and high registers. There is a comfortable melancholia and sense of searching for something in the production.

The Evran project started in 2018 as Gøran started pulling from years of material stored away on his computer / hard drives. Material he could polish up, sometimes rewrite, finish while writing new songs as well. "Birds of Stone" is one of the tracks that will be released on an upcoming 2022 EP "A Perfect Day" (set to drop in the Spring). Press notes reveal the back story to the song:

"This inspiration behind the track came from four chords and a fever dream of weathered lost souls, tied to the ground, unable to move on. The lyrics later revealed to be an allegory of equality, and the feeling of not being seen or heard, most noticeable in the chorus lyric 'Letting go of everything when the daylight shines on all of us',

The lyrics revealed to come from a personal place in Evran’s life. As he struggled for a long time with self confidence in his songwriting. He would not share his songs with anyone, and then feel left behind and ignored when others received recognition for their music. This was a bad destructive mental loop that he managed to break free from in 2018, when he started this project."

Evran is an Norwegian bedroom artist/producer.

After numerous music projects & bands, and a computer filled with his own demos & sketches, Gøran Skage created "Evran" to release the unused material.

Fueled by the desire to share his music he started 2019 by going through the material that he had accumulated throughout the years, to find songs to re-write & finish, while simultaneously writing new songs, that will be released as singles, EP's and albums.

Labeling his music as Grand Pop with a dash of Indie & Alternative, his songs ranges from a low acoustic whisper to a grand anthem of synths, strings & delay guitars. All topped of with soaring emotional vocals.

Evran always strives to find those moments where music turns into magic.
