James Lonergan and the hypnotic soul psych rock push of "ohno" (Radio Edit) Official Video

"I had a bad trip in Holland baby, all my sense were lost..."

"ohno" by divergent Irish artist, singer-songwriter, musician, do it all-ster James Lonergan seeps easily into your psyche like a non malevolent drug. The falling prog post punk guitar notes, the almost disco snappy beats, the dark club feel, cool drum highlights and soul pop vox by Lonergan are addictive and uplifting. It feels like stream of consciousness stuff, the lyrics that push on my temples feel like malleable metaphors, maybe double entendre or maybe philosophical impressions or maybe nothing at all but they are intriguing as is the entire production. Sadly, it ends before it feels like it is beginning. I guess better to leave you hungry for more.

"ohno" was mixed and engineered by Lonergan who also provided vocals, guitars and production, lovely bass work by Fergus Grant and those eclipsing drums by Phil Noone. Lonergan is working on an album, yeah.

James Lonergan,

the young crow of a man,

hatched in 1994 and nested in Balbriggan, Co.Dublin.

As a mere chick, Lonergan joined his first band aged 10.

Since he has steadily fronted bands - most notably as the vocalist, guitarist & principal songwriter of the recently disbanded progressive band, Synk.

Working in Music Maker, Exchequer S t - a job he pined for and persisted in attaining - he describes as “the love of my life at the time” and remains a beam in his building of craftsmanship.

James Lonergan’s characteristic caw is akin to

Jeff Buckley, Chris Cornell & Hozier.

Crossed with his intricate, highly developed

guitar style and electronic influences, his signature is distinctive in its season-like expressions.

Now crafting his first solo album with the support of the new record label Here Listen, James is furthering the development of his own hybrid of contemporary alternative/folk/electronic (think James Blake, The Divine Comedy, Beck), all while covering mercurial emotions and including his fascination with the yet to be known depth of darkness.

Check this out, will ya?
