JRK and the grand patterned progressive narrative of "Thought I Was a Grand Deluge"

"Thought I was a thunder cloud / Spitting lightning at the mountains / But I was just a speck of dust / Spinning in the turbulence"

"Thought I Was a Grand Deluge" by JRK, the solo project of singer-songwriter, musician, producer Rick Klaras and from his self-titled debut album (2021) is an intimate burning ember that grows and glows larger as if to catch fire and set everything around it ablaze. It thankfully does not but instead the flames lap up in artful ways creating a subtle tension built on lovely textured acoustic guitar work that with moments of urgency offset by sustained calms. Klaras' commanding vocal aesthetic mirrors the innate chordal melodies creating a dance that remind me of 70's prog rock runs and I love the tones here.

I listened to this song a dozen times now and somehow it sparks different emotional connections, imagery and remembrances every time.
